The GUI for the hiding functionality was probably one of the most debated issues in the new administration interface. Basically, the problem is how much to show and how much power to give the users in the different views. A few considerations on the two things you bring up: 1. The list mode is meant for users that do not have extensive knowledge about eZ publish. The list is supposed to be as clean and easy as possible. We consider the hiding functionality to be advanced and hence this state is not shown in the list mode. 2. This relates to the advanced nature of hiding as well. We put in a bit away from the basic functionality in order not to confuse peopke. Also, keep in mind that hiding is a potentially CPU intensive operation (consider what happends if you hide the content root in a tree with 200k nodes). We don't want users that don't know the implications of hiding to access it that easily. Of course, nothing is set in stone for the future and we will monitor how functionality is used and what problems people have with it.
