eZ Sytems is hiding information from its community

This is continuation of the thread http://ez.no/developer/forum/general/contributions_are_not_linked_and_not_searchable It has been 2 weeks from the original post, so i think topic name change is in order to get more response to this.

Basicly: there is a new projects section on ez.no where most new and interesting contributions live. There is great ez 4.0 compatible stuff there, check it out http://projects.ez.no/

The issue is that that section is not linked on ez.no and not included in search. Funny thing is that although top menu has "Developer/Projects and Contributions" selection, it only gives you the old contributions page with outdated stuff that is mostly not working in ezp 4.0

And please no bullshit about how everyone is busy and it takes lots of time.. like someone said earlier, that site uses a frakkin' CMS! It would take a minute to go to http://ez.no/developer/contribs and write in big letters on top of page "This here is old crap, for current, WORKING contributions go to http://projects.ez.no/"

New members of ez community (which is near died out as it is) are being daily frustrated by lack of usable contributions and the outdated/not working stuff on contribs page and ultimately give up on ez.

So unless it is goal of eZ systems to hide away contribs in order to sell more support, could this be fixed please? A prominent link with explanation on contribs page and inclusion in main site search.

I don't think eZ Systems is hiding things from its community...
Just take at look at http://ez.no/content/advancedsearch?&SearchText=projects.ez.no&SubTreeArray[]=2
and you will see 247 matches for it. There is a link to projects.ez.no in each one.

For example, link has been sent to everybody in community_newsletter...

I don't want think about what could i do if eZ really hides projects.ez.no :)

new content fails to appear on /developer and worlds begin to shift ...
happens ever year at different times. never know just how people
are going to start more public projects outside of ez.no. from every
aspect the silence is best understood at the bottom. where are the
other people simply talking more about what they are successfully
doing themselves from code to ideas.

Thanks Paul - or whoever added the link! It would be bit better if it was made a bit more prominent as a primary source and comment added about contribs being mostly historic and in process of being moved to projects. Perhaps change the text into bold so theres no chance anyone can miss it.

Whats the deal with search? Somehow i think it should not be too difficult to add it to search too.

I don't know why, but somehow I don't have high hopes.

Open source? Not really, dual licensed.
Encouraging partners and community to commit back? Not really, no obligation in the gpl to commit back for example, or the 'Alliance Pack´ states that the partner tries to sell as much closed licenses as possible.

Lots of incentives for 'Partners' but community isn't considered a 'partner.'

Please point me to things that might encourage me.

Check that, 'Release Roadmap'. You know I seem to remember eZ Publish releases being short not to long ago but mostly smaller improvements. These longer releases seem to bring more and more advanced functionality. eZ shares their information very granularly and arguing with a brick wall in blank faces doesn't help but sure is fun (at times). They normally will tell you, sometimes you can tell something is missing unspoken other times it's just a little tidbit that you cherish. My point is have you ever known eZ Sysinfo to share much about their own competitive advantages let alone give those up until well after it no longer seems to matter? http://ez.no/ezpublish/roadmap

The eZ Publish roadmap has always been a joke in terms of release dates, but it got even worse after 3.9. The current roadmap is a prime example.

4.1 is scheduled for Q4 2008. There's only 1 month left to hit that estimate and we haven't seen an alpha release yet. The alpha-beta-rc cycle takes longer than a month (I hope, unless we're heading towards another 3.10 release quality wise). Also worth pointing out that in the beginning of 2008 we were told an alpha release would appear towards the end of February.

4.2 is scheduled for Q2 2009. Scratch that and put at least Q4 2009. With 4.1 slipping there's no way this release will land on time. And if it does, it means 4.0 will be a dead end in 6 months from now giving you only a few of months to make the switch.

Swift bugfix releases are also a thing of the past. We're a year after 4.0 and we've had only 1 bugfix release. The release frequency used to be a lot better.

Those developments (no pun intended) haven't really boosted my confidence in the future of the product. Fortunately, the eZ Components team does a better job of hitting release dates. So there's still hope :-)

PS: I'm surprising myself here. This is the first time I'm so harsh for the eZ world...
