I was reading the new grokdoc.net site and noticed its cms (mediawiki) has some pretty nice document management features. One that caught my attention was its diffing tool for page versions, eg:

Very nice and very lightweight. eZ publish currently doesnt have a diffing tool for version control but it certainly should. This would greatly help with intranet sites using eZ for document management tasks.
Could this be added to the administration project? :)

You could use the current admin translation code as a base. It kinda does the same thing. All you need is a few extra fields and colour and "bobs your uncle" instant diff tool.
Well i am sure it will harder than that, but, I hope you get where I am coming from.

Yes, a diffing tool is something we should have in eZ publish. In most datatypes it's also really simple. The XML text field is a bit harder to diff though.

True XML diffing may be complex, but you could always convert it to html to perform the diff and use a standard text tool. As always this would be a handler, of which more complex instances may be created at some point...
