Find a host service is the biggest problem when you want start a project with ezpublish. The shared hosting services manytimes doest fit all the requirements. On the other hand, dedicated server or VPS are expensive and need more skils to administer.
Any sugestions for a VPS ? Any user here can tell something about their experience with some VPS ? I spend some hours this weekend (some people I know say I spend all weekend, but please dont beleave :) searching in the web collecting and updating info about hosting companies. I found some interisting VPS services, but I prefer know some user testimonials.
I thing any user experience can help other users. thanks for your help ! axel edit: I nice place to search about hosting is http://www.webhostingtalk.com/

Hi Axel! After doing some tests on several VPS systems (so called "RootDS"-VPS, which have guaranteed resources and only 25 RootDS share one host-system), I found out that SiteGround Shared Hosting, altough operating in CGI-Mode without PHP-Accelerator, is still faster than the VPS systems. So a VPS would not be an advantage at all. But maybe a dedicated server would. vServers, RootDS or dedicated servers REQUIRE good knowledge of Linux. I would not recommend buying a server if someone don't know what he/she is doing. In such cases, a managed server would be more sufficient. If you want to get a server, look at the German hosting market. The prices for VPS and dedicated servers are unbeatable (e.g. dedicated server, Opteron 144, 1GB RAM, 2x80GB SATA HDDs, RAID1, 2000GB Traffic for 44,00¤/month / a RootDS with 15GB space, 500GB Traffic for 13,50¤/month / a VPS with 5GB space and 30GB Traffic for 5,00¤/month) Regards Sebastian

Thank you Sebastian, I've contacted sitegroud. Their offers are great. But they have php4.3 and I need php 4.4 for my projects. About hosting in Germany: Some offers from German hosters look nice, but the language is a problem for me. About your suggestion "RootDS with 15GB space, 500GB Traffic for 13,50¤/month / a VPS with 5GB space and 30GB Traffic for 5,00¤/month" I dont have found any offer like this. Can you give the web address ? thanks

PHP as CGI is a security measure (e.g. otherwise other users would be able to modify files in your account). After all, it seems no problem to run eZ Publish in CGI-mode. Well SiteGround is still faster than your VPS: I'm getting times between 0,2 and 0,6 secs at the moment. :-)
Getting eZ Publish to work on Siteground is no problem. Once you get the trick, it takes only a minute more to configure (Modifying the RewriteRules and adding a script that cds back to the root directory for every subdomain). Btw: And after I complained about the non-standard webhost, they are thinking of a special solution for every customer that uses eZ P.

I have no idea what they are planning. But as long as my eZp installation works fine (and fast), I don't care much.

@Sebastian: thanks for the rewrite rules! Can you help me one step further by telling me how to "configure eZ-Publish to generate the right URLs"?

I'm using OVH.com (OVH.co.uk) on a dedicated server, their dedicated and RPS plan are very affordable. Basics dedicated start at 29.99 Euros: kimsufi.com (kimsuffi.co.uk) I'm using an EG-08 dedicated quad-core server on which I have installed Proxmox (VM server) with a machine for the web hosting and one for Varnish. It is working just great.
