How to set layout in an ezobject link.

When adding an ezobject link to content, is it possible to set the layout?
e.g.
http://www.mydomain.net/layout/set/popup/media/site_help/event_registration_help_text
where the normal ezobject reference begings as...

How can we add the /layout/set/popup/ directive while still using the ezobject reference method?
