Hi guys, Would you be as kind as to check out this very weird problem that I'm having during installation: http://www.ez.no/community/forum/install_configuration/database_initialization_problem UPDATE: The setup wizard now also times out at line 1416 and 1456 among others. Also, sometimes the wizard returns to the inital screen after a long wait. Sincerely, Eirik Johansen

Could someone from ez please advice here? I'm guessing it's caused by some strange server setup, but in any case, ezp should generate a meaningful error msg instead of timing out. Thanks in advance ! Sincerely, Eirik Johansen

Looks like the main problem is the PHP timing out. What kind of hardware are you trying to install eZ publish on ? Try to set max_execution_time in php.ini to 60.

Hi Kåre, Thanks for coming to my rescue. I'm uncertain of the hardware specs, so I've emailed the web host. How do you think this could affect the installation? I've already tried increasing the max execution time (though using the set_time_limit() function), but that didn't work. It either timed out after 60 seconds, or returned to the initial screen of the installation wizard. Sincerely, Eirik Johansen

Have you tried the new release, 3.3-4 ? The database initialization has been somewhat rewritten. I don't think it'll solve your problem, but it might be worth a try.

Hi again Kåre, This is what I got from the web host:
mail: xeon class machine with scsi disks
mysql: dual xeon class machine with 3GB ram and raid 5.
web: p4 class cpu with 1GB ram and raid.
dns: p4 class cpu with raid dns2: dual xeon class machine with scsi raid 10 Does this tell you anything? Sincerely, Eirik Johansen

Hi Kåre, No go using v. 3.3-4. The same error occurs. I also hit the new "Finetune" button in the wizard which produced the following messages.
1. PHP option Magic Quotes is enabled
2. Missing MBString extension 3. PHP option Register Globals is enabled However, I don't think they've got anything to do with why the installation isn't working. Do you? Sincerely, Eirik Johansen
