Improvements to packaging for extensions?

Is there a plan for this support in the near future? The bug is filed as:

http://ez.no/community/bug_reports/packaging_extensions

Im concerned at the consequences of not having this support. I havent seen any mention as being targeted for 3.5 so i guess thats out. That leaves 3.6/4.0 as the next possible target, but given the ez cycle of around 6 months per release this means we cannot package an extension for another 8+ months at the minimum. This isnt good.

Given that the initial activity for contributions to pubsvn and here on ez.no has all but dried up more needs to be done on the packaging side to make it far easier to install and configure. This may spur people to create more and get the ball rolling properly.

I want to improve our Worldpay extension to include new user classes and objects, plus include an country datatype and new template to show how the whole thing works. Im waiting until i can package extensions before adding this otherwise i'll have to redo it all again. With 3.5 the payment api has changed anyway, so...

Please finish the functionality for the package system and support extensions.

Yes, please this would be nice.

We already talked about this so often, And i wasn't even able to find anything about it in the specs or else.

I would love to have this as well but as it is now I don't think we will have time for it before the 3.5 release. We are pretty much busy with the admin interface now.

But if someone in the community has the time to start this themselves, we could then add it to 3.5 and finish it.

Thanks Jan,

One problem a contributer would face is with the time spent figuring out which bits of the kernel need to be added to. If there isnt time for a full implementation by eZ would there be time for a spec to point out the relevent areas that should be worked on?

Here im thinking of a spec that has more detail than creating package handlers/installers... :)
