Force section (pagelayout) on viewing other section's nodes?

Hello,

Naive question: Is it possible to display content that belongs to section A (which uses normally pagelayout_section_A.tpl) to display with another pagelayout (which uses pagelayout_section_B), possibly with a parameter in the URL?

Looking at kernel/content/view.php it is not possible without changing the code, but I hope someone proves me wrong.

Something similar is possible with siteaccess (as you can do with the preview function in the admin interface), but uses a form element.

The why:
In developing a section and template where a user has defined his own structure (a configurabel "my site") we would need this feature. The basic strategy followed is that we define a node tree in a dedicated section which has nodes corresponding to individual users or groups of users (the user node has one related obect which is one if these nodes). These user-related nodes have then a series of related objects which are pointers to the elements a user wants in his page + some "my site" specifics like collaboration messages and style sheets to use. Currently this works OK as some kind of a dynamic "bookmark" page, but we would like to display the content also in the "my site" layout.

Any thoughts or solutions?

Tx

Hi Paul

I believe that the features you describe will be in the next release.

However in the meantime is it possible to use the layout/set feature (used for print friently pages) e.g.
/layout/set/{$layout_name}/content/full/1234
to achieve what you want to do?

Cheers
Bruce

Thanks for your input Bruce,

I thought about it, and will use that approach for the time being. I'm not sure the concept for "My Site" and dedicated pagelayout should remain beyond the "first click". If it does, then all content/view/ templates should check which layout they are in and adjust the build-up of links to reflect the /set/pagelayout part.

Next week we should see with the first 3.1 beta if the nextrelease will make this easier.

Regards

Paul

Paul,

How has the print-layout workaround being working for you?
